Larry holds B.S. and M.A. degrees in mathematics and a Ph.D. in the behavioral sciences. A former U.S. Navy officer, Dr. Durham has also served as a university dean and professor; an accreditation team manager for the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations; manager of nuclear training for the Tennessee Valley Authority; and, interim vice president of training support and services for Ontario Power Generation. After 32 years of service in military, educational, and business settings, he founded a performance support consultancy in 1997. He has provided consulting services to more than 60 organizations from over 30 countries. Recent engagements include development of technical documents for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA – the organizational co-recipient with its Director General of the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize); research for the Alabama Center for Civic Life and the Kettering Foundation on what it takes to make democracy work as it should; and, mentoring and performance support at all FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company plant sites.
A teacher at heart, Dr. Durham has long served as a mentor both to clients and co-workers and has been a faculty member and administrator at three prestigious institutions of higher education. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Larry has authored 48 publications and made 39 professional presentations on a wide array of topics. His interests have ranged from creating learning organizations to the global impact of an aging workforce and knowledge management. He currently serves on the Vulcan District Committee for the Boy Scouts of America. He and his wife, Anne, have been married for 42 years and have two grown children and four grandchildren.
